FLAT BELLY SECRETS (PART 1)

HEALTH NEWS 101:

Melt abdominal fat by walking more. (Almost 33% of cancer-causing inflammations in the blood stream comes from “fat cells” studies show and, abdominal fat makes it even worse).

To battle belly fat, clip a pedometer and aim to take 10,000 steps daily. Researchers found that active women who do have a flatter stomach than their inactive folks have 30% less inflammation in their blood streams.

Drink cranberry juice for peak protection:

Sipping two glasses daily helps your liver to make 10% more healthy HDL (good cholesterol) says researches.

NOTE: Not sugar-loaded cranberry sold in supermarkets and shops. Look out for “Pure Cranberry Concentrate” with no added sugar (or visit Body Perfect Health Stores – 08034545819).

FLAT BELLY SECRETS

a) STOP STRICT DIETING:

You may be trying too hard to lose your belly fat! Research shows that constant dieting could make levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, which causes the body to store fat in your abdomen, rise to as much as 18%. This in-turn will make your blood-sugar go haywire, first rising, then plummeting, which makes you cranky and ravenous. The best cure is eating three healthful meals and two snacks (fruits or protein bars) spaced evenly throughout the day so that your blood-sugar stays level.

b) GO SLOWLY AT MEALS:

Don’t scarf down your food, even healthy food. Research has linked this behaviour to bigger portions and more belly fat. Researchers think that slowing down every bite and paying attention to feelings of fullness may lower cortisol levels along with decreasing the amount of food you eat.

c) EAT GOOD BREAKFAST:

Deficiencies in B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium and magnesium are stressful to your body, leading to increased cortisol levels and food cravings. To fight back, eat a breakfast that’s high in these nutrients. A grape fruit or an orange to supply vitamin C, a glass of soymilk, rice milk or almond milk to supply calcium and magnesium or 8 ounces of low-fat yoghourt and a cup of oat meal. For other healthy breakfast options, see “Beach Body Eating Plan”.

d) CURTAIL CAFFEINE AND DRINK MORE HERBAL TEA:

When you combine stress with caffeine, it raises cortisol levels more than stress alone would have done. In one study from the University of Oklahoma, consuming the equivalent of 2 to 3 cups of coffee daily while under mild stress boosted cortisol by about 25% and kept it up for 3 hours! When subjects took 600mg of caffeine (the equivalent of 6 cups of coffee) throughout the day, the hormone went up by 30% and stayed high all day. And, because high cortisol levels contribute to stress eating, you might want to consider quitting caffeine.

YOUR BEST BET: Organic Oolong tea or green tea
These teas, especially organic Oolong tea has proven to reduce stress and abdominal fat. Can’t take hot tea? No problem; get them in organic led tea with B vitamins. (Body Perfect Health Stores).

NOTE: Be sure to go for “organic tea” because non-organic tea leaves are usually sprayed with pesticide and remember you don’t wash tea. As soon as you brew, you drink! So, your source of tea is very important. Not every tea is good, especially when it comes cheap. ORGANIC IS BEST (no pesticides or preservations).

e) CHOOSE WHOLE GRAINS:

Your body needs carbohydrates for energy, but the average person eats about twice the amount of carbohydrates needed per day, mainly in the form of refined flour products and sugar-loaded drinks.

Eliminating those simple carbohydrates cuts a big source of empty calories. Instead, eat smaller amounts of complex carbohydrates and pair them with foods that have protein or healthy fat like nuts to help reduce blood-sugar spike – and crash and cravings that come with it.

f) HYDRATE PROPERLY:

Drinking enough supports the other ways you’re flattening your tummy – when there’s enough fluid in your system, the high fibre cereal you eat is better digests better while reducing constipation. Hydrating also helps flush excess sodium out of the system, so aim for at least eight (8) glasses of liquid, including water, skin milk, natural juice, herbal teas and iced teas each day – plus plenty of fruits and vegetables.
